Countdown to Diwali 2017

With the holy festival of Diwali just around the corner, people have engaged themselves in preparations for the festival; thoroughly cleansing each and every nook and corner of their homes, shopping for Diwali and buying presents for their family and friends with gifts sweets and best wishes. Diwali is majorly about welcoming Lord Rama, after the victory of justice over evil. Whereas how we celebrate it with lights, lamps and crackers; Diwali remains incomplete since many of us celebrate it for the sake of festival and not for its values.

One thing that Hindu mythology says is that rules change over time but the values remain the same. Even though it has been ages since Ramayana happened, people only retain the story that was told but forgot the values that it depicted. Ramayana was a story that depicted that that evil has many faces, Ravana being one of them, was a genius and despite his knowledge and wisdom, his ego ruined everything for him and brought him no good. In today’s time, we take even the pettiest issue upon our ego and we let our anger motivate us to act on it. Anger, ego, and grudges are the three biggest evil forces which differentiate a good human from a bad human. The light that shines through a lamp is not just a metaphorical depiction which cuts through the darkness; it is also the symbol that says that the light within one’s soul should shine brighter than all the negativity. Being peaceful and positive is an inside job, and it must shine so bright that it not only just cuts through the evil but also attracts more positivity towards you like a moth to a flame.

Our body is a universe and inside us resides a Ravana and a Rama, what makes us different is our ideology and our will; a positive mind will result in positive actions and a negative mind will only give negative outcomes. The force we choose to act upon makes us who we are. So let your soul be as clean as your homes, and let it shine brighter than a lamp, wishing each one of you a happy and a blessed Diwali.
